It’s time in support of a blast from the past. The Poor Axe RetroCade held its grand opening April 18, where guests had their first look at the new arcade.
Inside, rows of pinball machines and classic arcade cabinets filled the space. Additionally, the arcade has two side rooms, one filled together retro video game consoles and the other with tables and tabletop arcade cabinets in exchange for board games and a seating area.
Owner Jason Mohr is joyful it’s finally open.
“It’s a bit of a relief to have it open,” Mohr said. “It’s been pretty intense working a lot of hours between here and the shop. It’s kind of nice to be able to sit back and watch the dream here and catch it exist.”
The arcade was announced in October on Facebook, together Mohr and his family working inside the space in favor of the last six weeks to prepare in exchange for the opening. They were redoing the drywall, painting and repairing classic arcade machines to be ready in support of the day.
“My biggest nerves are coming from the machines right now,” Mohr said. “Because they’re so old they can be glitchy. But I’m pretty confident. We’ve been testing a little bit here and there.”
Mohr said that working on retro arcades is constant work given the age. Talking together other arcade owners, he said that repairing, buying and trading away machines is a part of the business.
In total, there are 26 arcade machines, eight pinball machines and two skeeball machines in the arcade. There is also a minuscule snack bar and a cooler together soft drinks for purchase.

Man, I am so stoked about Poor Axe RetroCade opening up! Classic arcade games are the bomb, and having a place to go play them all sounds like a dream come true. Cannot wait to grab some quarters and relive my childhood together some old school gaming action. Who’s down to join me in favor of some high score battles?
