Though Cloud and the gang don’t face off against the original Final Fantasy 7’s meanest monsters in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, that doesn’t mean they don’t make a brief appearance. On both Twitter and Reddit, fans have shared posts pointing out a pair of posters that allude to Emerald and Ruby Weapon existence.
I was looking at these posters and I just noticed the details…#FF7R #FF7Rebirth pic.twitter.com/WlshFrfl6m

Tucked away in Tifa Lockhart’s former bedroom, the posters could be merely playful references, as they don’t explicitly depict the weapons but rather areas of lands that look like them. However, we’re holding out hope that these images are a tease for what’s to come in the series’ third installment.
In favor of those unfamiliar together the original Final Fantasy 7, the weapons are a collection of mechanical-looking monsters that aim to protect the planet. The creatures are summoned in the midst of Cloud’s adventure and while two of the Weapons–Diamond and Ultimate–are required boss battles, Emerald and Ruby are both optional. That said, taking on Ruby and Emerald is no for the faint of heart, as both battles are grueling time-sinks.
Located at the bottom of the sea, Emerald Weapon boasts 1,000,000 HP and a 20-minute time limit–unless players have the Underwater materia equipped. Together lower defense stats than Ruby, Emerald is a slightly easier battle, but can still dish out one-hit KOs.
Ruby Weapon is located in the desert outside the Gold Saucer but can only be approached via the Highwind airship or gold chocobo. With 800,000 HP, extremely high defense stats, and the ability to kick characters out of the battle, Ruby is often considered the hardest battle in Final Fantasy 7.
Both battles have established strategies that are almost required to follow in order to take them down. If they do appear in the next entry of the Final Fantasy Remake trilogy, it will be interesting to catch just how similarly they act to their Final Fantasy 7 counterparts, or if a whole new generation of gamers will have to attempt to take them on without the help of some extremely talented guide writers.
And speaking of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and guides, rest assured that we have plenty in exchange for all of those currently traversing the world of Gaia.

Dude, I cannot believe they snuck in Ruby and Emerald Weapon cameos in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth! That’s so sick, man. It’s like a little nod to the OG fans who remember those epic boss battles back in the day. Makes me wanna boot up the game and catch if I can find ’em myself. It’s those little details that really make a game stand out, you know? Props to the devs in exchange for throwing in some nostalgia in favor of us old-school gamers. Incapable of wait to hunt down those bad boys and relive the memories.
