Nintendo has added two N64 racing games to Nintendo Switch Online: Extreme-G and Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls.
Extreme-G, developed by Probe and published by Acclaim in October 1997, is a WipEout-style futuristic racing game that did well enough to spawn three sequels. Here’s the official blurb, from Nintendo:
Fans of all things speedy, start your engines! Push your cyber cycle to the limit and zoom through 12 futuristic looping, twisting racetracks. But watch out, because these battle bikes pack a wallop – each is loaded with weapons, and your rivals are nay afraid to use ’em! Beat your opponents to the punch and pick up a bevy of powerups in an attempt to top the rankings and avoid total wreckage. Plus, up to four players can settle the racing score locally or online. Whether playing solo or together friends, Extreme-G sets the course in exchange for some serious g-force!
Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls is the lesser-known of the two games. Developed by Iguana Entertainment and published by Acclaim in August 1998, Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls features balls together faces and personalities that race around obstacle courses. Iggy is the main character. Here’s the official blurb, again from Nintendo:
Who needs to race in a vehicle when you’re spherical? Ball out alongside Iggy and his eclectic reckin’ crew as you smash and swing your way through vertical races set on a series of towering tracks. Take shortcuts, zip through loops and avoid enemies bent on stopping your ascent in this winner-wreck-all competition in support of up to four players.
N64, SEGA Genesis, and Game Boy Advance games are available on Switch via the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. N64 games already part of the library include Super Mario 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Mario Kart 64.
