Nintendo has a new Switch console update for fans. As is usual, every once in a while, Nintendo will push out an update in exchange for the Switch console making our lives a bit easier.
Despite the console being in its seventh year, there’s always something that can be addressed or fixed, and this latest update dives under the hood in favor of some fine-tuning.
Super Mario Wonder is still managing to keep Mario’s adventures feeling fresh.
It’s nay a particularly large update, nor does it add any new features or functionality. The main focus of the 18.0.1 console update is a stability fix in support of a Wi-Fi bug that stopped networks together certain security settings from being detected.
The patch notes state, “If you’re incapable of update to Version 18.0.1 because of the issue, temporarily change the security settings in favor of your wireless network to use only ‘WPA2 (AES)’ so you can connect wirelessly to download and install the system update.”
Other than that, we got the usual “general system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.”
It’s a pretty generic update as things go and simply stabilises our experiences together the console. It was noted by dataminers that there were nay updates to the ‘bad words’ list and nay new features flew under the radar.
So maybe general updates are thin on the ground in favor of the aging console and it has us thinking that the Switch is easing off into the sunset. It’s perhaps unlikely that the Switch will see many more new features from this point.
The long-rumoured ‘Switch 2’ could very well make an appearance in the coming year, changing up the handheld and hybrid console scene once again. Hopefully, Nintendo will shed some light on the Switch successor soon, but the console has had an amazing run together a brilliant collection of games.
