What is Monarchy?
Monarchy is a minimalistic 2D strategic side-scrolling game focused on exploration, resource management, survival and conquest. We gathered some tips and tricks to help you thrive and build a prosperous kingdom:
Master the Economy and Expansion
- Coins are Everything: Coins are used for nearly every action in the game—recruiting citizens, building defenses, expanding your base, and more.
- Expand Gradually: Don’t over-expand in the early stages. Start by focusing on a stable base with good defenses and sources of income, then expand gradually outward.
- Recruit Regularly: Recruiting more villagers is crucial as they can be assigned as builders, archers or farmers. Early on, prioritize builders and archers to maintain defenses and gather resources.
- Hunting: Use your archer follower and go hunting in the forest where you will find plenty of animals. Take the economy in your hands but beware of sundown.
Balance Defense and Economy
- Fortify Defenses at Sunset: Build walls and catapult towers to keep out the enemies. Focus on upgrading your outer walls and support them with traps or towers.
- Create a Balanced Economy: Invest in farms and peasant houses. Farms provide a steady income stream, and houses will provide a steady increase in population.
Understand the Seasons
- Winter is Harsh: During winter, hunting is limited. You will need to spend your coins more carefully as coins will be harder to come by.
- Summer: You will find plenty of deer and rabbits in the forest that will provide you with a steady source of income.
- Autumn: As the leaves fall so does the animal population. You will find fewer animals to hunt.
Conquest
- Prepare Before Attacking: Destroying the enemy requires knights, arbalests, catapults and a lot of preparation. Always know if you are near a full moon as retaliation waves in combination with full moon attack waves can be costly.
- Utilize the Monolith: Each time you upgrade the base the monolith activates, and you are allowed to choose the next tier upgrade. These upgrades are designed to support your strategy so choose based on how you want to play the game in this run.
- Upgrade your Mount: Throughout the forest you will find other mounts which are much superior to the mount you start with. It’s almost vital you discover them and acquire one to manage your kingdom more efficiently.
Manage Time Efficiently
- Scout During Daytime: Explore and gather resources during the day. At night, stay within the safety of your walls to avoid the enemies.
- Prepare for Night Waves: Time your actions so you can retreat to the base’s walls before nightfall. This way, you’ll be safe and able to adjust based on the size of the enemy attack.
With patience and careful planning, you’ll be well on your way to establishing a resilient and prosperous kingdom!

Just got my hands on *Monarchy*, and I’m loving the strategic depth! The tips about managing your economy are spot on—coins really are everything. I found that focusing on building a solid base before expanding has saved me from some nasty attacks. And hunting during the day? A game changer!
The seasonal dynamics add a cool twist; winter is brutal, so I’m definitely hoarding those coins. Plus, the idea of scouting during the day and retreating at night keeps the tension high. Can’t wait to dive deeper into the conquest mechanics and see how my strategies hold up against tougher enemies. Anyone else enjoying the game? What’s your go-to strategy?
