You can now play Fantasian Neo Dimension on your Xbox Series X|S consoles! For the uninitiated, the game has you follow the protagonist, Leo, who wakes up in a strange mechanical land with only a single memory left to him. He will journey to recover his memories as well as discover the mysteries behind the strange mechteria infection threatening to destroy his world.
This original RPG story is brought to life by the father of Final Fantasy, Hironobu Sakaguchi, and renowned composer Nobuo Uematsu. If you’re a fan of RPGs, you’re in for a treat from these industry legends as this game presents an original and modern take on the turn-based battle system, with a wealth of unique mechanics and strategic combat that shake up the classic RPG formula. Set across a backdrop of over 150 hand-crafted dioramas, Fantasian Neo Dimension will bring a fun challenge set across beautiful—very real landscapes.
The original Fantasian released in 2021, was critically acclaimed for its strategic and engaging battle system. However, this same battle system was also spotlighted for being particularly challenging! For those of you who might prefer to focus on the story—me included—Fantasian Neo Dimension launches with the added difficulty setting of Normal. Even with this new difficulty setting, you may still find the game challenging.
If you find yourself feeling stuck during your playthrough, fear not for I’ve provided some helpful tips and tricks to steer you in the right direction and get those strategic juices flowing to aid you throughout the game!
Getting Started
One of the key features of Fantasian Neo Dimension is the Skill Trajectories that you’ll use in battle. Each skill and attack come with varying trajectories such as straight lines, curved lines or area of affect. Observing enemies’ position on the battlefield and turn order to choose the right skills and trajectory will help you take out multiple enemies at once. It also makes for a very satisfying battle system.
Using skills will eventually deplete your MP. You can choose to be more mindful of your MP or utilize items such as Ether or Elixir to restore it. Some characters also come with skills such as Focus which allow you to restore their MP – making infinite skill usage possible without a cost!
Another key feature is the Dimengeon System, which Leo unlocks after he discovers the Dimengeon Machine. This allows you to stow away previously encountered enemies to battle later and reduces the number of random encounters. Holding off battles until more enemies are stored will yield larger waves of enemies to battle, allowing you to utilize your Skill Trajectories to the fullest as you take out multiple hordes of enemies at once. While in Dimengeon battles, be sure to attack the Dimengeon Gimmicks that pop up with your Skill Trajectories to receive various benefits in battle.
Battle Tips
Paying attention to your attacks, skills, items, equipment and more can make a drastic difference in battle. Here are some tips to get you started:
- Weaknesses – You can learn an enemy’s resistances, weaknesses and remaining HP by using the Analyze or Research skills, or the Research Lens item. Take advantage of this knowledge by utilizing skills or items with elements, status effects, buffs or debuffs that enemies are weak against.
- Status Effects – If an enemy imposes a status effect or debuff on your party, treat those as soon as you can. Also use buffs to your advantage to further give your party an edge against enemies.
- Equipment – As you progress through the game, you’ll be able to receive stronger equipment from treasure chests or shops. Make sure to update your equipment regularly and ensure you have items with the appropriate resistances for your battles.
- Strategic Use of the Dimengeon Machine – There are times in the game where Leo must venture alone. During these times, consider if it would be best to keep the Dimengeon Machine on, or turn it off to avoid Leo becoming overwhelmed in the Dimengeon.
- Dimengeon Machine Reset – If you ever feel like you have too many enemies in your Dimengeon Machine, you can stop by the Outskirts of the Vibra Royal Capital and find a device that can empty the Dimengeon Machine for a cost.
- Party Members – Later in the game, Leo will be joined by multiple members that you can swap into your party. Each comes with unique strengths and abilities, so be sure to periodically swap out your party members for the strongest combination for upcoming battles.
Growth Map
After some time, Leo and his party members will be able to unlock the Growth Map, where you can obtain various skills and status bonuses by using SP. Be sure to try out various bonuses or skills to better equip your characters in battle. You can also reset the Growth Map selections at any time by selecting “Release Mode” to reset your SP at no cost.
