Bandai Namco and developer Reflector Entertainment announced it has decided to not greenlight work on a “future project.” In the released statement, the studio’s CEO and Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe CCO Herve Hoerdt confirmed this is due to the “failure” of Unknown 9 Awakening. This also results in layoffs for the studio.

It’s always a bummer to see a new franchise get the axe, especially when it had potential. Unknown 9: Awakening had some intriguing concepts, but I guess it just didn’t resonate with players. It’s tough for studios when their first outing flops, and layoffs are never a good sign. Hopefully, the team can regroup and come back stronger in the future. It’s a harsh reality in the gaming industry, but here’s to hoping they find success with whatever they tackle next!
