Mass Effect 2 really nailed that episodic approach, and it’s wild to think it’s been 15 years! The way it blended character development with mission structure was so fresh at the time. Each loyalty mission felt like its own mini-arc, giving us a chance to dive deep into the squad’s backstories. It’s a shame more games didn’t take that cue and run with it.
Sure, we’ve got some great RPGs out there, but they often stick to the classic formula. Imagine how cool it would be if other devs embraced that episodic storytelling more! It could really add layers to character interactions and world-building. Mass Effect 2 set such a high bar, but it feels like the industry kinda let that idea slip through the cracks. Here’s hoping someone picks it up someday!
