Following their release of Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrants Eye at the beginning of the year, Stern Pinball has unveiled their second new title of 2025 (technically the third after they just announced RUSH Vault Edition, but I’m using the qualifier ‘new’ to mean, a whole new design). Let’s take a look at King Kong: Myth of Terror Island.
King Kong: Myth of Terror Island Trailers
First, it’s always good to start with the videos that Stern put together for it, starting with the main trailer that’s about a minute long, followed by a deeper dive into the game’s features:
King Kong: Myth of Terror Island Cabinets
There are three models for King Kong, as Stern usually does – Pro, Premium, and Limited Edition (LE). These are MSRP’d at $6999/$9699/$12999USD, respectively. As usually, the Premium and LE versions have more to them, with articulated toys (Kong moves around a bit; the bi-plane has a spinning propeller; the gong is 3D sculpted; there’s a giant spider toy that “attacks” the ball; the NYC train car acts as a ball lock; and there is a Log Bridge diverter in the left outlane), although from the looks of it from above, the Pro isn’t too shabby, despite missing those elements. It appears to have a similar flow, as opposed to being completely different.
There were three artists who have worked on this: Kevin O’Connor, Greg Freres, and Jeremy Packer(ZombieYeti).
King Kong As a Game
Based upon the original 1932 film, with characters and situation from said film, the setting takes place in both the jungle of Terror Island, and New York City. This is a Keith Elwin design, with the artists mentioned above contributing to the design, and custom speech from Brian “Q” Quinn of Impractical Jokers.
Per the Features Matrix (off-site PDF link), all versions of the game share quite a few things in common, so it appears that most of the difference comes in with the articulated toys. For some general similarities, that includes 4 flippers, 6 pinballs, the magnet for the Spider Pit, the targets and game modes also appear to be the same. Then of course there is Stern Insider Connected, which will incentivize players to come back for more as they track their scores and chase achievements.
Per the press release, this game is “available now,” so it appears that no matter which model you want, it should be shipping out pretty quick. You can order from whomever your preferred Stern Pinball distributor happens to be. If you operate a location and already have a Kong game from either Raw Thrills or UNIS, then this would be a great match.
As a note, this probably isn’t the last of pinball news that will hit this week, so keep your eyes peeled. What do you think of this game from all that has been revealed?
