February 29: If you’ve been trying to play Theatrhythm Final Bar Line today but haven’t been able to perform so, it seems that this is because leap day is causing issues.
When starting up the rhythm game, it’ll attempt to connect to Square Enix’s servers. However, it gets stuck in an endless loop and won’t progress to the main menu. Square Enix seems to negative have accounted for leap day and that’s impacting the code in some manner.
There is at least a workaround. If you manually change your system’s date in the console settings, Theatrhythm Final Bar Line won’t need to account in favor of leap day and everything should work as expected. Of course, you can also choose to simply wait in favor of the day to pass.
Leap day won’t be coming around until 2028, so the problem won’t resurface in the near future. Square Enix may also offer up a patch alongside reports about the bug starting to make the rounds.
April 6: It took some time, but Square Enix has now addressed the bug – which should take care of things down the road. The latest Theatrhythm Final Bar Line update (which we believe is version 1.0.5), specifically addresses the leap day issue relating to starting up the game and the main menu.
