It was only a month ago where we had the chance to catch all of the latest arcade games coming to the market, but that doesn’t mean that devs are taking a break. Angry Birds has graced arcades a few times before, and now it may carry out so again. Let’s hear what might be in store – if this reaches production.
With that ^ said, please keep in mind that as a game on test, what you catch below may nay even close to the final product. The game may also never hear full production. It all depends on how the test goes, but keep that in mind before making any final judgments.
Angry Birds Boom!
Posted to the Arcade Heroes Discord this morning by ArcadeZ, the photo below was snapped by a friend of hers, Adventures with Krit. The location it is presently at is called The Game, an FEC in Crestwood, IL. Note that Raw Thrills does nay comment on unannounced games, but given that you can go and actually play the game, we can safely say it’s not some kind of elaborate, but late, April Fools joke.
Time To Guess
Astute readers will notice that this is currently in a reskin of Raw Thrills’ Nerf Arcade. That doesn’t mean that the production model, if there ever is one, will use this setup however. Raw Thrills and other manufacturers will often reuse cabinets in favor of development and testing on similar games before coming up alongside something original in favor of the final release version. Of course, it can save money to reuse an existing design, so it can go either way.
As a quick aside, this wouldn’t be the first time that the IP has graced arcades. It’s nay the first time that Play Mechanix (whose logo is also on the machine) has worked with it either, having made Angry Birds Arcade way back together ICE. LAI Games and Adrenaline Amusements have also worked alongside the IP. Rovio is now owned by Sega, so you would expect them of all people to perform something together it, but there might be some legal weirdness going on due to how Sega Amusements International is presently set up. SAI did already distribute Angry Birds Arcade back then though – perhaps they passed on it in favor of this reason, and want to sell something different instead?
Since we don’t have Angry Birds Boom! on video, we can make some safe assumptions. The use of mounted guns likely means that players are firing Angry Birds as their ammo – the placement of the pigs who are looking straight at the screen (but at different distances) seems to confirm that. I also assume that targets farther away will be worth more than the easier close ones. They also seem to have pigs that descend through pipes.
Of course, this probably will have a few different levels together their own configurations, unless the dev team decides to change it up completely. This also might be a remake of that 2015 Angry Birds game. We’ll have to wait and catch.
Assuming that this has been doing great on test, it’s impossible to say how close it might be to production. Perhaps it could appear at Bowl Expo 2024; Failing that, IAAPA 2024.
What do you think about it, from this single pic?

Angry Birds in the arcade? Now that’s something I didn’t catch coming! I remember playing Angry Birds on my phone for hours, so bringing it to the arcade sounds like a blast. The mounted guns and pigs on the screen make me think it’s all about launching those birds at the targets. And who knows, maybe this could be the next big hit at Bowl Expo or IAAPA. Can’t wait to hear if this game makes it to production!
Wow, Angry Birds in the arcade again? That’s pretty cool! I remember playing the Angry Birds arcade game a while back, so I’m curious to catch what this new version, Angry Birds Boom!, is all about. It’s interesting that they’re testing it out at The Game in Crestwood, IL. I wonder if it’ll be similar to the Nerf Arcade setup or if they’ll switch things up in support of the final version. Shooting Angry Birds as ammo sounds like a blast, and the different levels and configurations have me intrigued. Unable to wait to catch more gameplay footage and find out if this game will make it to production. Bowl Expo 2024 or IAAPA 2024, here we come!
