Your favourite game for March’s eShop Selects.

Once more unto the breach. It’s time for you to voice your thoughts and tell us about the best eShop games released in March 2024 — the ones we missed, at least.

March may have marked the Switch’s 7th birthday, but it’s otherwise been a bit of a calmer affair on the hybrid console. Popular indie tactical RPG Rainbow Moon finally landed on the eShop; the water-logged apocalypse became part of our lives with Highwater; Devolver Digital taught us about Cricket Through the Ages; and Indie World’s own Death Trick: Double Blind had you solve a murder mystery at the circus.

Kenny or not.

We’re back with another look at the latest UK boxed charts and things are still looking a little unsettled after the arrival of last week’s newbies.

On the Nintendo front, Princess Peach: Showtime! is still standing firm in the top ten, dropping only one place from last week thanks to the arrival of South Park: Snow Day! in third. The top two are EA Sports FC 24 and Hogwarts Legacy, of course, but we’ve grown accustomed to that now.

It’s already got “overwhelmingly positive” reviews on PC.

If you’re craving another N64-inspired 3D platformer, you might want to check out Corn Kidz 64, which is launching on the Switch eShop on 19th April 2024 for $6.99 / 6.99€.

Birdie!

The weekend is here, which means it’s time to dive into what we’ve all got planned with our Switches (and other consoles too, we guess).

Before that, however, let’s take a look at what’s been going on this week. First up, the Switch got its latest firmware update, and although it’s not the most exciting thing in the world, we always appreciate a bit more stability with our consoles. Nintendo also announced that F-Zero Maximum Velocity would be coming to NSO (and it’s out now!), while rumours started to gather pace about a potential Xbox handheld to give the Switch a bit of competition.

Zelda was its “best 2023 game”.

Metacritic released its 14th annual publisher rankings earlier this week and Nintendo has placed in the top 10 for 2023.

Thanks (mostly) to the critical success of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo placed sixth place out of 46 publishers on the list. It had an average Metascore of 79.5 in 2023 after releasing 22 titles, with four great games overall. Here’s what Metacritic had to say about this:

Worthy of an encore?

Step aside Mario, because Princess Peach is here to show everybody what she’s capable of. Yes, after a reasonably short wait, Princess Peach: Showtime! is about to launch on Nintendo Switch, but the big question is whether it’s actually any good.

The good news is that, yes, it does seem to maintain the usual Nintendo magic that you’d expect, and it received a more-than-respectable score of 8/10 from ourselves. We said that “there’s creativity, style, and fun to spare here, with levels packed full of secrets, cool outfits, and enough new mechanics to ensure nothing ever outstays its welcome”. Sounds decent!
