Masahiro Sakurai is back at it again with another YouTube video, this time looking at games that don’t feature the ‘pull and pull’ or ‘risk and reward’ mechanics that he generally believes make up a games ‘essence’.

As such, he goes on to endorse “work” games such as PowerWash Simulator, Car Simulator, House Flipper, and Cookie Clicker. Basically, games that don’t offer up what many would deem ‘traditional’ game mechanics, but are nevertheless fun to play in their own way.

Is there anything the man can’t do??

We are approaching six months (!!) since Super Mario Bros. Wonder leapt onto Switch, and while the launch chit-chat was dominated by the vocal talents of Kevin Afghani — the new voice of Mario — it turns out that the voice acting performance we should have been talking about was one by Nintendo’s own Koji Kondo (thanks, GamesRadar).

The first of four chapters is “coming soon”.

Bandai Namco has announced brand new DLC is on the way to the Switch version of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2.

It’s officially titled “Future Saga” and will be delivered in four chapters, with Chapter 1 “coming soon”. Here’s a tiny bit of PR along with a video above featuring Vegeta, Goku Black, and some other familiar faces.

A certain character has also been teased…

Leading the charge for a new generation of video game movies was Sonic the Hedgehog. After two successful live-action movies featuring star power like Jim Carrey, the blue blur is now back for a third big- screen outing later this year in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

If you’re wondering how it’s all going ahead of the 20th December 2024 release, in an update on social media, the director Jeff Fowler has announced filming has officially wrapped! To confirm this, he shared a shot of himself featuring some cool drawings of Sonic and the gang including…spoiler…Shadow! The same character was previously teased in the second movie.

“Some” contractors will be cut, others will become full-time employees.

It’s been a difficult start to the year for the video game industry with mass layoffs across multiple companies, and now a new report from Ethan Gach of Kotaku suggests Nintendo of America has massively downsized its “small army of contractors” responsible for testing games and hardware.

In an official statement, a Nintendo spokesperson confirmed these changes would involve “some contractor assignments ending” as well as the creation of a “significant number of new full-time employee positions”. Nintendo’s American branch will also provide support to the contractors’ agencies during this period. Here it is in full:
